Taking the Mystery Out of MRI Images

Let’s face it; you are probably not a radiologist! If you were, understanding all those images would be easy, but for the average person looking at an MRI is overwhelming to say the least, and all those big ‘doctor’ words on the radiology report are even more confusing!

In reality, reading and understanding an MRI of your spine can actually be pretty easy, especially when someone is willing to spend the time giving you the education you need. Believe it or not, you don’t have to go to school to become a radiologist to read an MRI…but you do need a little bit of help, and that’s where I come in.

The word “Doctor” means to teach, and that’s something I take pretty seriously.

Virtually all of my patients have had an MRI of their spine performed at one time or another, and I always take the time to read the MRI images myself so I can better understand the problem we are dealing with. However, I go one step further….I take the time to educate my patients on how to read their own MRI so they can fully understand their own unique problem. All those big ‘doctor’ words can be simplified and you are totally capable of understanding the images if you are taught what to look for!

In that way, after we’ve completed taking their history, done the consultation and physical examination, and reviewed their MRI together, we can work as a team to design a critical pathway towards a successful rehabilitation.
