About Natural Pain Solutions
Natural Pain Solutions specializes in providing Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression as part of an Integrated Care Model at Natural Pain Solutions.
The primary focus of the Natural Pain Solutions is the treatment of severe and chronic neck and lower back and/or arm/ leg pain. Our patients typically have either already had surgery and are still experiencing pain and disability, or they may have been advised that they need to have a surgery, or they simply have not made improvement with traditional methods of care, whether with their family physician or chiropractor, pain specialists or other healthcare provider.
Dr. Grace often works closely with the members of the Natural Pain Solutions healthcare provider team so that patients may benefit from the added value the team can offer.

Dr. Thomas Grace
Thomas is passionate about non operative spinal decompression and restoring function with the least invasive means possible. Dr. Grace believes that many patients with severe pain and decreased function could avoid surgery and epidural injections with a non-invasive spinal decompression program.
Dr. Thomas Grace, Clinic Director
Thomas Grace received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the University of Western States (UWS)(2015), a BA in Sociology from Gordon College in Wenham, MA (1993) and a BS in Geology from State University of New York and the University of Wyoming (2001).
During his Chiropractic training, Thomas’ love for treating under-served communities led him to clinic rotations with Volunteers of America and a UWS mission trip with Clinica de Mariposa to Costa Rica in 2015, where he treated hundreds of local patients in the San Jose area. Upon his return to the States, he joined Dr. Popovicks at Orofino Wellness Center in Idaho for a final clinic rotation.

Thomas’ interest in cranial work began twenty years ago by listening to Dr. James Jealous DO lecture on CSF and cranial sacral therapies and has evolved through study and many hours of practice. He completed his certification in SOT (sacral occipital therapy) 2017 and enjoys integrating this work into the treatment of his patients at Natural Pain Solutions.
As a clinician, Dr. Grace has a strong interest in functional evaluation and individualized treatment plans. His treatment approach uses a combination of Diversified Adjusting, Activator technique, IASTM, muscle energy techniques, nutritional and cranial sacral therapies.
Thomas’ health care philosophy was shaped by a childhood of simplicity. He was raised without electricity in a log cabin in upstate New York. As an adult, Thomas travelled to Colorado, where he became enamored with mountaineering and eventually became a rock and mountain climbing guide. Ten years of this work gave Thomas a greater curiosity about the ways that the body works. He has held teaching certifications in both New York and California, which allowed him to bring his love for learning into the classroom. In more recent years, family became Thomas’ primary focus and that has provided him with unprecedented fun and fulfillment with his four kids.
Dr. Grace has many hours of postgraduate education in functional neurology, orthopedics, biomechanics, cranial/sacral therapies, physical therapeutics, clinical nutrition, as well as diagnostic imaging such as MRI and CT scan.
Dr. Asiya Akhgar
Asiya Akhgar is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Asiya believes in empowering people through movement and education about their bodies. Her goal is to help her patients become as independent as possible; each session should be a learning opportunity.
Dr. Asiya Akhgar (she/her), PT, DPT, OCS
Asiya completed her undergraduate degree at Eastern Washington University double majoring in Athletic Training, and Exercise Science. After graduation she worked as a High School Certified Athletic Trainer for a variety of classic sports before attending graduate school to earn her Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy at Pacific University. During her time as a PT student and after, she did gig work as a Certified Athletic Trainer through the Portland Timbers and with NBA referees.
She is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Asiya believes in empowering people through movement and education about their bodies. Her goal is to help her patients become as independent as possible; each session should be a learning opportunity. She enjoys working with patients of all physical levels across the ability and life spectrum, hence Fit For Life!
Her areas of interest include sports-related injuries especially for rock climbers, weightlifters, and yogis, pelvic health as it relates to the whole body, and vestibular rehabilitation.
Outside of her work as a physical therapist, she enjoys rock climbing, backpacking, painting, gardening, and spending time with her husband and cat.

Dr. Ryan has a Masters and Doctorate degree in East Asian Medicine and has been practicing for over a decade. His doctoral thesis focused on the treatment stress-related neck and shoulder pain through the lens of Japanese Medicine. With thousands of years of recorded history, East Asian Medicine offers a wealth of practices that reflect on the human condition.
Ryan Law, Doctor of Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine
Dr. Ryan has a Masters and Doctorate degree in East Asian Medicine and has been practicing for over a decade. His doctoral thesis focused on the treatment stress-related neck and shoulder pain through the lens of Japanese Medicine. With thousands of years of recorded history, East Asian Medicine offers a wealth of practices that reflect on the human condition. This provides a unique blend of tools and treatments to bring the body back into a harmonious state.
In his treatments, Dr. Ryan uses a combination of bodywork, acupuncture, movement, and herbal medicine. This approach to healing creates pathways which vary depending on what is appropriate and preferable to each patient. This medicine is not something that is done to you, but something that you participate in.
Outside of practice Dr. Ryan is a playful multi-hyphenate artist. Currently his practice is focused on mark making and drawing. Historically it has included performance art, dance, sculpture, installation work, and ceramics. He lives in North Portland with his partner and cat. Together they love riding their bikes, playing games, cooking good food, making art, and going for long walks.
